Check out what I made with the Happy Birthday Wordart

I used the Happy Birthday wordart in my last post to make a birthday card for my nephew, and I was pretty happy with how it turned out.

Here's a pic of just the wordart, cut straight from the file. I stamped some polka dots on the candle with VersaMark and embossed them with white embossing powder, and covered the flame with gold embossing powder.

Here's a photo of the finished card.  To make the card, I selected the shadow layer in MTC, and created an even larger shadow layer, that basically filled in all the empty space around the letters.  Then I duplicated that twice, flipped one of them upside down, lined them up vertically and moved them till I had them joining at a logical place at the top of the wordart to fold the card.  Then I just welded the two together to create the card base.

Once I cut the card base, I scored it where it needed to fold, but just to the edge of where the H shadow juts out.  Then I traced the top of the H shadow and carefully cut it from the back of the card base, so that when I open the card, the top of the H swings.  I've tried to show that in the picture below.

If you're interested in seeing a tutorial on making the card base, please let me know and I'd be happy to put one together.

  1. I would love to see how you did this. I just don't seem to be able to grasp the fact that it would want to connect at the H. Please show us how you did this.
